Spanish retailer El Corte Inglés now allows you to earn avios on all your shopping at select department stores in Madrid, Barcelona and Marbella.
Did you know that El Corte Inglés is the biggest department store group in Europe? The retailer announced their collaboration with IberiaPlus called Shop&Fly. From May 2018 shoppers can earn 3 avios per 1€ spent. That’s a great opportunity to earn avios at a very popular chain where you can find whatever you want (think of Selfridges or Harrods). Also, El Corte Inglés is famous for its very good customer service.
What’s the catch?
As any good deal, this one comes with some conditions.
- You need to reside outside of EU.
- You need to shop at these five El Corte Inglés shops (click on the link to see the store’s website with address):
Madrid: El Corte Inglés Castellana;
Madrid: El Corte Inglés Serrano 47;
Madrid: El Corte Inglés Serrano 52 Man;
Barcelona: El Corte Inglés Diagonal;
Marbella: El Corte Inglés Costa Marbella;
3. You need to spend at least 90.15€.
4. You need to be a member of IberiaPlus.
5. You need to install the IberiaPlus app and log in.
How to get your avios?
After you finish your shopping, you need to go to customer service point at the shop and file a VAT return. You will be issues a QR code which you can scan with your IberiaPlus app. Avios will post after 72 hours.
Here is how the Iberia Plus website describes the process:
SHOP
When you’ve finished shopping at El Corte Inglés (Castellano and Serrano in Madrid, Diagonal in Barcelona or Costa Marbella in Puerto Banus), go to the International Desk or Tourist Information Point in the store, where the staff will help you to claim your VAT refund and will issue an invoice with a QR code.
VALIDATE YOUR INVOICE
Download the Iberia app and log in with your Iberia Plus membership number and your PIN. Then simply go to the “Iberia Plus Partners”section and click on “I have a code”. Next, scan your QR code.
This will display the number of Avios you have collected, which will be available for redemption once your VAT refund has been processed.
The Iberia Plus member must be the same person indicated on the tax free invoice, otherwise the Avios will not be credited.
Make sure your VAT refund is processed successfully so that we can credit the Avios to your account.
GET YOUR AVIOS

How to find a QR code scanner in the IberiaPlus app
In order to find a QR code scanner, or to enter the code manually, you need to do the following:
- Open your Iberia Plus app;
- Tap on the menu sign (three horizontal lines) on the top left corner;
- In the opened sidebar tap on your Iberia+ card icon on the top left corner;
- Choose the last option in the opened menu called ‘Collect Avios when you shop’ (see below).
On the opened screen you will thee the link ‘Scan code’ (see below).
On the next screen you can either scan the code or enter it manually. Also here you can track the status of your transactions.
My opinión
If you are going to Spain and planning to buy something, El Corte Ingles is a good place to do it and it’s great to see that now you can pick up some avios along the way! Seems like this is a bit of a pilot, judging by a very small number of stores which take part in the promotion. Let’s hope there will be more shops and more ways to get avios while shopping.
